Dr. Shaker Dakhil Awarded Kansas Humanitarian of the Year
Each year the Kansas Humanitarian Commission selects individuals whom are awarded by the State as Humanitarians of the Year. As mentioned in the announcement by Lt. Governor Jeff Colyer, M.D.,”It is my distinct pleasure to honor these very worthy Kansas humanitarians. I hope this award will inspire others to service and follow in the footsteps of these Kansans who give back so much to their communities.” Among the three recipients of this award, our very own Dr. Shaker Dakhil was selected. The announcement spoke of Dr. Dakhil as having “spent his life treating cancer patients and started the Wichita Cancer Foundation to help cancer patients with the cost of their health care bills”. Although this statement only touches the tip of the iceberg of Dr. Dakhil’s commitment to our community, we are so proud to have such a well-deserving physician and President of CCK to have been selected for this award. Summarized, the stipulations for an individual to be selected for the Humanitarian award are as follows: display a dedicated commitment to serving his community, state and country; volunteer time to help those in need, consistently puts the needs of others above his own, sets himself apart from his peers through service and is a Kansan. Dr. Dakhil will be personally presented with the award and a letter by the Governor and his Lieutenant at a private ceremony in Topeka on March 30th.
